Ascona / Vectra


Ascona A, 1970

As a successor to the luxury Kadett (Olympia) Opel presented two new Models in 1970. he Ascona and the Manta. They shared the rear axle with the Kadett and the engines with the Rekord.

The Ascona came as a sedan and a wagon, called Voyage.


Ascona B, 1975

The Ascona B was bigger than the A in every dimension and had a 2.0 E wiht 110 HP as top-of-the-line engine.


Ascona C, 1981

With the Ascona C Opel made the transition to front wheel drive in this category. The Ascona C came as a sedan as well as a hatch back. Back then the hatchback appeared to be a small Monza. With a 1.8 liter 115 HP engine it was performing quite well compared to it's competitors at the time like the VW Passat or the Ford Sierra.


Vectra A, 1988

The Vectra was a design milestone for Opel. When it came out - at about the same time as the third generation of the BMW 5 series - the two cars received a very positive echo in the press. They were called the two best designed cars of 1988.

The most powerfull engine available was the 204 HP turbo, which gave the car a top-speed of
240 km/h (150 mph).
